Healthy Food Options for Summer Fun

I’m from a small town in Iowa, so girl, you KNOW I’ve been to the Iowa State Fair! There’s so much to see from the butter cow to deep-fried butter.

I’m not kidding. The Iowa State Fair is known for all of the food you can order on a stick, from butter (seriously), to Snickers, to classics like corn dogs and cheese curds. It touts over 200 food stands serving over 50 items on a stick!

You’ll get plenty of movement in around the fair, water park, and theme park this summer (checking off your summer bucket list?), but staying on track with macros can be a bit more of a challenge. I put together a list of my favorite macro-friendly food options. Scroll to the bottom of this post for your copy.

What are my favorite picks for fair food? Keep protein simple with grilled versus fried. There are so many different kinds of grilled meat like gyros, kabobs, or the classic turkey leg. You can’t go wrong with corn on the cob or watermelon on the side.

For dessert, what’s a visit to the magical kingdom without a Dole whip? It tastes so indulgent but is mainly made of pineapple. I’m looking for a great copycat recipe that I will DEFINITELY share here once I can approve one.

Food stand food can get a bad rap but you’ll have no problem picking healthy choices if you want to. I am NOT about sisters overthinking food choices and missing out on the fun. Download my handy guide and forget about thinking about your meals.

P.S. Start your trip with to-go breakfast options and pack some of my favorite travel snacks.
