Macro-Friendly Aldi Grocery List

Girl. If you haven’t been to Aldi for groceries lately, you are so missing out.

The prices are shockingly cheap which is a total mystery because there is no sacrifice in quality. In fact, I swear their produce lasts longer. They have a great selection of organic food and specialty products to accommodate low carb or gluten free living. And I love their seasonal products that reflect their German heritage.

I have yet to meet anyone who has shopped at Aldi and not loved it. But I know plenty of people who have never been and are nervous to try. WHY?

There are a few quirks to the store to figure out.

First, bring a quarter! All of the carts are chained together outside the store. You insert a quarter to free your cart and plug it back in when you are finished to get your quarter back. This is a pretty casual system, though, because people frequently just pass their cart to the next shopper. It’s such a friendly place!

Aldi prices are always great, but they also stock weekly specials. They will always have basics like ground beef or turkey, but their specials, like family packs of boneless skinless chicken breasts, can run out. Best to shop as close to Wednesday as possible!

Bring reusable bags, but don’t sweat if you forget. It’s totally normal to snag a box off the shelf. Pro tip: Laundry soap boxes are super strong! You can also purchase a bag if you need one. Their store-brand reusable bags are gigantic, indestructible, and $2.

The cashiers are like, lightning fast. Go ahead and put your things up on the belt and then move right down to pay. The cashier will fill a different cart with your items. When you have paid, help them swing your original cart around for the next shopper.

From there, there is a big counter for you to bag and box your own items. If the weather is bearable I prefer to bring my things right to my car and organize them there.

Finally, return your cart. Better yet, pass it on to someone entering the store. It is tradition for them to offer a quarter but for you to refuse. Ha!
